Week 5 review

This week we had lots going on, we attended our first Co Op classes!! The kids had a wonderful time and are looking forward to a great semester! Here are a few pics from the first day.

Ian is taking two preschool classes. Ally is taking music, I can be an Author too, and a body systems class. Audrey is taking music, math, and herbalogy.

Our home lessons with HOD were just as fun and busy. We learned about how the English pilgrims settled in Holland and how their lives were now different in this new country. The girls compared it to how homeschool is different than co op! We had a great discussion on this and I loved the connection they made. Here is a shot of their history page for the week. We are working on answering questions on complete sentences by restating the question.

Ally enjoyed making the tulip art activity.

All if the kids had fun making a stethoscope and hearing each others heartbeats in science. I love how the verse and bible story as well as morning bells all hit on this.

We had a baby appointment this week and for some new ultrasound photos so the kids were excited about the verse and how Jesus grew and how God knows all about our new baby!

Spelling and phonics were good this week and both girls got all of the short u words correct on their tests! I am also seeing improvements in Audrey's overall spelling. I also saw improvements on their reading.

I did a running record, which I will do weekly now. Audrey read 90 won on a level K and Ally read 120 women on a level O!

I also gave them a writing assessment where they both scored meeting second grade standards!! I used a rubric from a second grade teacher friend. I try and do a writing assessment once each quarter.

Here are their journals this week. We wrote about it raining candy. They wanted another silly topic.

We covered different types of sentences in language so I had them draw and write an example of a command/statement and a question sentence.

In our IEW lessons we wrote about Joseph and I was proud of all the adjectives they used and how the are taking off on their own and writing their own ideas and sentences.

In math we are still working on adding and subtracting bigger numbers and I am pleased with how well they are doing

We started reading a new book in a new genre, King of the Wind, which is an adventure story. The girls seem to be enjoying it though I do have to explain some of the Muslim culture to them. I their independent reading they drew a picture of Queen Esther in their reading journals and made a story cube over a book of their choice for their literature response project.

Ian started his HIPPY lessons this week. Here is the book we used. He loves it!

It was a good week that included piano lessons and some cooler weather for outside play! We even doubled up on a few lessons so we could have a short and easy Friday and an early start to the weekend.
