Unit 17 review

Unit 17: Two Pilgrim Children Become Captive

Verse: 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all you care upon him for he careth for you.

Song:  None this week

Poem: In the Evening

Bible: 1: Peter 5; 5-11 and we learned how the devil is always out and about like a lion ready to eat but we know that God always cares for us and is there to help us. We did some dramatic play with this weeks bible lesson.

Storytime: The Railway Children.......We started our mystery this week and even though it is a very old book and the language is a little different the girls are liking it. We worked on the story element of predicting and the character word of loyalty. We are also writing down things we find weird or mysterious.

Spelling: ar  Phonics: Audrey worked on long vowels and Ally worked more on ed endings.
I let the girls do spelling tic tac toe with their words and try to beat each other. Ally won this weeks game :) Here is their favorite activity from spelling this week using the magnetic letters to make words.

History/Geography: Our history lessons were over two little boys who got captured by the Indians and how they survived and escaped. The girls were a a little impatient with this story as it took all week to wrap up and will go into next week. It took a little reviewing to complete their history page. Ally even told me she would rather learn about girls in history than boys! They did have fun making the model of the river in geography.

Science: In science we learned how a fish moves and breathes in water and also how it scales work. They had fun making their own fish. We also learned how the light from the sun reaches us so far away but yet does not burn us.

Writing:  This week in writing we did another fun Christmas writing and the girls had to pretend to be an elf looking for a job at Santa's workshop. We read an elf book each day and then filled out part of our application as well. Our Elf on the Shelf, BooBoo, will be taking these to Santa soon to see if he would hire them : ) I found the template on Teachers pay Teachers for free!
Reading: The girls finished Prairie school this week and they both seemed to enjoy it! They had fun going back and seeing if the predictions they made on the first day of reading were correct or not! After they finished the book I had them compare and contrast how Noah's school is the same and different than their school. They did great orally with this but it took a bit of modeling for them to get how to write it down in their journals but they did it!! Here is a photo of Ally's journal.

Math: We worked on subtracting big numbers this week and the girls did well though we did have to review a few facts since it has been a while. They are almost done with book 1B!!

Art/PE/Computer/Music/Enrichment: The kids had fun bringing back out the Logic Links books for enrichment this week. Ian had fun just making shapes out of all the dots! The girls are learning to recognize notes on the staff in piano so we played alot of flashcard games along with practice and lessons this week. For computer time I let the girls just play typing games and then just type on the computer and I can see improvements! In art the girls drew a picture of the setting where the boys Issac, and Joseph, from our history lessons were taken. They both had to do them twice as they didn't listen well the first time. For an extra art project we created a Christmas tree with paint, glitter, and pom poms!
