Starting unit 4

We are gearing up for a fun family weekend in Branson, Missouri with Paul's sisters and their families! The kids cannot wait to enjoy Silver Dollar City and ride their favorite rides and play with their cousins! Let's not forget they will get to swim at the hotel! Daddy will take off early Friday so we can hit the road! It is about a 2-3 hour drive depending on traffic and how may potty stops we have to take!  We also have the start of Audrey's fall softball season with her first practice this week, two ball games for Ian, AWANA, piano lessons, co op, and dance class! I absolutely LOVE our chaotic and buys life! There are just no words to describe how I feel seeing my babies do what they enjoy doing, even if it means most of the time we are running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to fit in dinner and get everyone where they need to be!

Monday

LHFHG Day 1.1
*Calendar: I cannot believe it is day 29 of school!! Tomorrow is school at co op so we will make our bundle Wednesday. Ian loves to do the bundle dance on bundle day!
*Phonics: We are now on lowercase letters in AAR pre reading!! Ian knows the lowercase a since it is part of his name! We also wrote some uppercase letters for review.
*Fine Motor: We matched sh words today and also wrote in HWOT book.
*Math: Ian is zooming right along in math and likes to work on several pages a day! He gets mad when he flips through the book and sees pages he wants to do in later units! We are still counting and writing numbers 0-10.
*History/Rhyme: We read about Joseph being sold by his brothers but that God was with him the whole time taking care of him. Ian enjoyed this units rhyme much better than some of the longer ones.
*Bible/Music: We started Proverbs 3:5-6 which is one of my all time favorites. We also worked on his AWANA verses and danced to our new song for the unit.
*Rotating: Today was art day and Ian made an Egyptian collar. We picked out the right colors and he drew what he wanted. It is a little plain for my taste but he LOVES it!
*Keyboarding: Ian did the first part of his lesson for the week. He was a little sad that we are back to keyboarding after a nice week off!
*PE: Ian has a baseball game tonight! He is really improving on both his batting and fielding! Friday night he hit THREE balls of the pitcher into the outfield!! That is pretty good for t ball!!!

Preparing Day 1.1
*Reading: We discussed the traits of loyalty and fairness today and the girls had to find an example in their reading and in their own life of each one.
*Writing: Today we outlined part 3 of our story on Solomon and will finish up this week.
*Language: Nouns was the focus and it was so easy we just read and did it orally in a matter of minutes! I have taught them nouns since kindergarten!
*Math: We had a new concept of multiplying a double digit by a single digit. The girls did well once I showed them the pattern to solving them. I did cover up the multiplication chart on the wall. They did well and did not miss any on their independent work.
*History Reading/Story time: I read to them about Ungar, the leader of the Beetle Brow tribe and how the told the children about why they move and where all they have traveled. We also read about different animals they hunted like crocodiles and hippopotamus.
*Independent History: The girls drew and colored the Tower of Babel. Coloring was scheduled for another day but they wanted to finish their towers today :) They are like their mom and do not like to leave projects unfinished.
*History Project: Our project for the week is to create a map of the major rivers during bible times. Today we pressed out our clay and then used a toothpick to carve out the rivers and sealed it up in a baggie to be worked on later. The girls are pretty excited about this project.
*Rotating: Today was research day and once again we used the file on the Facebook group and it was so easy for the girls! We learned about the Ice Age and theories behind it. The girls found those interesting!
*Music: Piano practice with flashcards was their focus today. They got in a lot of theory.
*Keyboarding: Both girls did part of lesson one today. They are getting pretty fast at getting through them.
*PE: Audrey has her first softball practice of the season today!!! I am sad to be missing most of it due to Ian's game but my dad aka Pawpaw is stepping in! The kids LOVE when Pawpaw comes to a game or practice because their is no telling what kind of junk food he will buy them when it is over! Ally practiced her dance!

Tuesday
It was another great day at co op and dance class!!!

Wednesday

LHFHG Day 1,2
*Calendar: We got to make our bundle from yesterday!!! I count co op as school for the day so I added a straw for yesterday and one for day. 31 days of school!!
*Phonics: We worked on a lowercase b today and had fun making a list of b words. He decided that he could write his coach's name BJ because its just a B and a J. Then he told me how smart he was : )
*Fine Motor: Ian wrote some S's and then also used a magnifying glass to figure out some missing parts that he had to draw in. What a fun lesson!
*Math: We are still working hard on writing and counting from 0-10.
*Story time: I read about Reddy Fox and how his friends felt sorry for him being so hungry and brought him some food!
*Bible: We worked on his AWANA verses for tonight.
*Keyboarding: Ian completed his keyboarding lessons for this week!!!!
*PE: Ian loves AWANA game time!! All of his best buddies are their and they run until they can't go on! He goes right to bed that night!

Preparing Day 1.2
*Reading: Both girls finished their first mystery book today!!! They LOVED Geronimo Stilton! We will start a new mystery tomorrow.
*Writing: The girls wrote a rough draft about Solomon and we proofread it together editing and revising as needed.
*Language:Proper nouns was the focus and the girls did the lesson on their own! It was a nice and easy review for them and gave mommy a break : )
*Poetry: Our new poem for the unit is called  To Any Reader. It was cute to hear their interpretations about growing up.
*Bible: This unit the girls are working on Psalm 1;1-6. We read and discussed about living Godly verses living ungodly. We decided it is better to live with God instead of without him.
*Math: Math gave them a bit of a challenge today as we are multiplying two digit by one digit numbers with carrying over tens. It took them a bit but they are getting the hang of it.
*Science: In science the girls learned about different plants and animals living in the tundra and made a chart of them.
*Music: The girls had piano lessons today.
*Keyboarding: Everyone finished their keyboarding lesson for the week!
*PE: AWANA game night is tonight and kickball is on the agenda!

Thursday

LHFHG Day 2.1
*Calendar: Ian was super excited for today! It is a baseball day!! It also means that tomorrow we leave for our weekend family fun getaway.
*Phonics: We did the lowercase c today in our AAR. Ian loves letters like this because they are just like the big ones only smaller : )
*Fine Motor: In HWOT Ian worked on the letters A and I and in DIC he had to categorize objects and got to cut and glue, two of his favorites!
*Math: We are working on counting backwards from 10-0 and Ian is doing so well. He is several pages ahead of where I have us planned.
*History/Rhyme: In our reading we learned how God took care of Joseph and he finally found his brothers again and they were very sorry for what they did to him. We discussed forgiving our sisters during our talk because being the only boy is sometimes hard!
*Bible/Music: We worked more on our verses from Proverbs and Ian traced part of his verses and then enjoyed the song while dancing with his baby sister.
*Rotating: Today Ian wrote each family members name on an index card. I let him use a sharpie to make it a little more fun and he LOVED it! In our house getting to write with a pen or marker is a BIG deal!
*PE: It is a baseball kind of night for my little guy!!

Preparing Day 2.1
*Reading: The girls read day 6 which was a start of a new mystery book. Ally is reading an American Girl mystery and Audrey is reading a Boxcar Children book. They had to find an object in their reading that they think may be important to the story and list why.
*Writing: We finished our stories about Solomon today!!!! They made covers with titles and did very well!!! I included both girls entire stories.
*Language: Language was oral today as it was more review on proper nouns. The girls had to read a sentence and then tell me what proper nouns were in it that needed to be capitalized.
*Math: The girls did three digit by one digit multiplication today with regrouping and did FANTASTIC!!
*History Reading/Story time: I read to them from the Great Ice Age book about how the Ice Age is slowing ending and how Grandfather and Ungar can tell a difference in the climate, the land, and the animals. There are more mud slides, dust bowls, warmer summers, colder winters, and animals are becoming extinct.
*Independent History: They girls were supposed to color their Tower of Babel but they did it on Monday so they had this box free today!!
*History Project: On our maps the girls had to use a toothpick and make a labeled flag of the rivers. They are really enjoying this project.
*Rotating: Today was vocabulary day and even though it took a little while the girls did well. I did our history reading while they worked and we stopped and worked on a word when we came to it, talked about the meaning, and then the girls looked it up and wrote the definition, drew a picture, and then wrote a sentence.
*Music: The girls have been promoted to practicing 15 minutes a day : ) They were  not happy when I added a little more for today since we will be gone for two days.
*PE: Both girls took their reading books and read their daily work while walking the elliptical.

Friday
I love Friday's!! I usually try and give the kids a lighter day if I can especially if I can see them working hard all week. Ian is ahead of schedule in a few things so he had a really light day. Last night he had a baseball game at 7:30 so it was 9:30 before I got him and the girls all in bed! Thank goodness for homeschool : ) Daddy is coming home early so we can head out of town, so another reason for a short day today!

LHFHG Day 2.2
*Calendar: We did a lot of our number and counting activities today since we did not do a formal math page.
*Phonics: We went through all our letters and sounds and did the lowercase d in AAR.
*Fine Motor: Today we took off from HWOT and DIC and did a journal entry. Ian is loving his journal! We practice sight words and also having him sound out and spell words. He wrote about hitting the ball.
*Storytime: We read about Farmer Browns Boy being determined to hunt down Reddy Fox but Ol Billy Opossum heard his plan is out warning his family and Reddy!
*PE: Fun times in Branson when we arrive!!!

Preparing Day 2.2
*Reading: Day 7 of mysteries was our lesson today. They had to draw a picture of what is going on in there book and write 4 sentences about it.
*Writing: Today was journal day for the girls and I let them write about anything they wanted. They both ended up writing about our upcoming trip this afternoon!
*Poetry Today we read the poem To Any Reader and it was the springboard for some creative writing. I had them use the imagery from the poem to write in their own words what the poem was about. They both did well after a little prompting!
*Bible: In bible we discussed the moods of Psalm 1:1-6 and when we could go to that verse for advice or comfort. We also did a round robin prayer, including Ian, asking God to help our attitudes and actions. Then the girls listened to their song and sang along.
*Math: In math the girls did a review page for a grade. I don't know why but they crave a grade on their math work! They both did very well!!!
*Science: For science the girls had to read from our Arctic Tundra book and then narrate back to me about what they read. They learned about Siberia and other places that have tundras and about animals that live there.
*Music: The girls had to practice 15 minutes today and then an extra 10 before we left since we will be gone a few days.
*PE: Fun times in Branson when we arrive!!!
