Today we had to say goodbye to our second forever pet. We had to say goodbye to our sweet Nala back in March. Our sweet little dog Cinderella Louise VanEvera, had to be put to sleep due to severe and degenerative back disorder. She also has three names like Nala, Belle the cat, Ally, Audrey, and Ian. My pets are like my kids! We had her for over 9 years. She was just four months old when we adopted her.
I wish I could post pictures but the computer is acting up and photo uploading is not going well. There are a few on FB and some on the post about Nala. I took some sweet pictures of the kids and her the other night.
Cinders death was sudden to us. We found her not using her back legs at all! She was just dragging them! The X rays showed she had three parts on her spine and one was in the worst part for a dog to be hurt, where the tail and spine meet. We could have given her a shot and then taken her home and nursed her with a small chance she would heal or at least heal enough to walk but not run. Her favorite thing was chasing and playing with the kids. Then she could relapse and this would happen again since it is degenerative. She lost control of her bladder so home care would have require us massaging her to make her go and then clean up after her. She would not have been happy or herself. The vet said an active dog like her would slip into depression and eventually may turn aggressive and we didn't want to see her that way or for the kids to see her that way. We were told she would never live the life she loved and would never be completely healed and would only worsen in time. We decided to let her go now before she got any worse. I could not watch her suffer and prolong that suffering for my selfishness.
It broke my heart to say goodbye to her. Nala was Paul's dog and Cinders was mine. She tried to give me a kiss but just couldn't, though she did try and perk up for the kids but couldn't wag her tail for them or love on them :( We all told her we loved her very much and will miss her, gave her a hug and some good ear scratches. I told her that I will always remember how much she loved my kids and how she took care of them and played with them. She would stand guard between them and strangers and other dogs! She loved them as well as kids I babysat and my nephew Adonis! He was her first kid.
He would come over when he was little and those two bonded! She would sleep by him and run to him when he would cry! Then she would whimper when he would go home. They would play chase and go for walks. We knew then she was perfect for when we had kids.
We got Cinders because our older dog Nala had separation anxiety and needed a friends. They were a match made in heaven! Now, they are together and running with each other, happy and pain free with all the little kids in heaven. This is what we told the kids and we like to believe it is true!
Cinders was a loving, fun, energetic, loyal, and smart dog! She will be greatly missed by our family and those who knew her. She would smile and show us the most crooked teeth, adorable! Sometimes one of her ears would wrinkle and fold and she would look so innocent and sweet, it got her out of alot of trouble! She was a digger and our holey yard is proof! She could dig her way out of any fence despite how much we blocked her off. We believe this ultimately led to her back injury. She was part English Bull Terrier and part German Shepard and oh such a cutie.
We love you Cindy Lou Lou and will remember you always. Thank you for loving us and being such a good member of our family. I thank you for loving my kids and looking out for them, for making them happy, for chasing them. I will always remember last week, when you went walking with us. It was our last walk together and it was sweet because you stayed and guarded us from other dogs and cars. My sweet girl, always taking care of us and loving us. Rest in peace my girl, pain free, and happy! I love you Cinders!
