This week is hard to put into words. We did a lot of school on the go! Ian had three ball games this week and he has a tournament this weekend. We worked have and did some school last Saturday as well as doubled up some and took Friday off for a fun day!
I took the kids to Chick fil a, where I had a tour of the kitchen scheduled and where we also met up with some friends! We toured, played, ate, and visited. As a assignment the kids wrote a thank you letter to the restaurant.
When our lunch was done I took the kids to Target to practice money skills since the girls are working in money in math. I have them each $10 to spend but they had to account for tax. In Audrey's words "I don't like taxes." They did each get to keep any change they had to save. Audrey bought tic tacs and gum, Ally bought a craft kit, and Ian got a Ninja turtle. It was a great field trip!

This week in LHTH Ian worked on the letter F. He is finally doing well and can recall all the letters and sounds we have done so far and is even writing them! He loves to play I spy using his magnifying glass and dry erase marker. I have all of his letter pages in sheet protectors so he can do this over and over on letters he knows. He is working on making straight lines in his HWOT workbook. I am pleased to say these are progressing along very nicely. He is actually getting the hang of it and enjoying school more and more each day! He is mastering his sounds in his speech class as well.
The girls did unit 7 in Bigger this week. We actually started last Friday and worked some on the weekend but we finished up the entire unit this week.
Bible: Proverbs 6:6-8 Industriousness We defined what it means to be industrious this week and applied it each day as we practiced and discussed our verse.
Poetry: "Thanksgiving" We reviewed alliteration and the girls game up with a sentence using the letter of their middle name so they would each have a different letter.

Music: O For Ages Past
Story time: We are loving Baby Island! We will all be sad when it ends this week.

DITHOR: Audrey started Dolphin Adventure and Ally is still on Toliver's Secret. They are both doing well and had an easy time identifying the problem in their books as well as finding examples of Fear of the Lord and Respect for authority.
Vocabulary: I will just include the photo of their work this week.
Writing: This week the girls wrote their own creative story after planning. I was excited to see them use their creativity and just write! Audrey wrote about a horse and bear in a cave and Ally wrote about a mermaid.
Math:Money skills were our focus this week and the big ideas was making amounts to equal $1 and writing money amounts correctly. Next week we will work more with making change.
History /Geography: We read and learned about John Winthrop the governor of Boston and Nathaniel Bacon who helped to pass laws to protect the Indians. We added these men to our time lines. We also learned about two important plants that were used during this time period, rice and indigo. We drew these in our notebook. We discussed how goods and services were used and the differences in them by making a chart. To further understand how these plants grew where they did we made a model of the Jamestown area that showed an island, an isthmus, a peninsula, and a bay. The girls loved this the best of the week!

Science: The girls had such a good and fun week with science. We looked at the parts of a flower and drew that in our science notebook. We made our own fossils after reading and learning about Thomas Jefferson's interest in them. We also learned about the order of the planets after making a model and then drawing them out.
Art: We made a wigwam out of clay and cereal to represent the Indian homes that we read and studied this week. Ours are not beautiful but the kids had fun making them.
This week I started the use of our Learning Logs, where each day we write down three things we learned that day to show Daddy. The girls decorated their covers. They had to remind me to do this every day they enjoyed it. Daddy enjoys it too! I do not give them any ideas when they go to reflect, it is all what they remembered or learned.
