This week was a little slower paced for us . However, Emersyn was and still is battling a nasty cold that has kept her super clingy to mommy causing us to do lots of school on the couch or on the floor. She is almost ready to crawl so for now she can entertain herself with toys sitting next to me. So with having a baby on my hip or lap for most school it was hard to get many good pictures of my hard working babies this week.
Ian worked on the letter G as we learned about Moses helping the Israelite slaves to get free. I am proud that Ian is learning and attempting his letters as well as recalling most of those learned and their sounds! We played a game where if he could tell me the letter he got to eat the candy on it :) Even though he still gets a little mixed up he worked so hard and got 6 out of the 7 we have studied!
Bible: Proverbs 29:25 Courage I love how we got to revisit the story about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendago! The girls did great at learning their verse this week.
Poetry: "Prayer" We had a fun time learning about the meter of a poem. Since the girls take piano lessons this was pretty easy to them. It was fun for me too.
Language: Our focus was on identify proper and common nouns. We did review and then made a t chart with common nouns on one side and proper nouns on the other.
Music:Our new hymn is O for a Thousand Tongues and we read the history and meaning behind the song and sang it all week. The girls are really enjoying music.
Story time: We finished Baby Island this week and we all loved it! Ally is now reading it on her own. As a fun concluding activity we made a short commercial for the book that I recorded on my phone. The girls did so cute and I wish I could post the videos on here. DITHOR: The girls also finished their adventure books as made a thank you card for one of the characters in their book. They had to pretend that they were invited to go on the adventure with them. These were really cute.
Writing: This week we revisited our field trip from last Friday and wrote about it using sequence words. We wrote out a list of words together to use in our story. I made them focus on writing out every detail they could remember and write it down in order. They did great and were amazed that they took up two whole pages! Math: Our money skills kept getting stronger as we added up money and figured out change for $1 and $10. The girls really know their stuff this unit.
History /Geography: This week our learning was about King Philips War and how it started and ended along with two very important people, King Philip and Captain Church. These were the two people we added to our timeline this week. We studied how it took courage to be a colonists during this time and how the Indians were not always nice and friendly. We also used the wampum we made in art to add to our history notebook.
Science: We further investigated the planets and since we did our drawing last week we didn't do one this week, just worked on memorizing the names and order and they have it! We also discovered how light travels in a straight line unless something is blocking its path.We recorded what we did in our science notebook. Then we did some experiments on static electricity. We rubbed the cat with a comb and touched a metal door know and that one failed but we did scoot our feet on the carpet and got a shock touching the door knob!
Art: We made a wampum belt out of noodles this week. I used a sentence strip cut in half for the back. I did not have any rice but already had a big bag of dyed noodles. It worked out nicely!
