Unit 14

What a week of fun! The girls worked in
Aunit 14 of Bigger and Ian worked on unit 13 of LHTH. Here is our week in pictures!!

Ian worked on the letter Kk as well as his writing skills. We also read about David and his kind heart and how he killed Goliath. In math we used the terms bigger and smaller, taller, and shorter. Super Heros were great fun to work with!

Unit 14 of Bigger we focused on being a leader and it fit right in with the recent elections!! Our verse for the week was Proverbs 11:14.

We started learning the hymn How Firm a Foundation and talked about how we as well as a good leader need a firm foundation in God. The girls enjoyed the story we read about the hymn.

Our poem was called A Nation's Strength and we used it discuss patterns in poetry.

We also wrote some poetry as we focused on writing couplets. The girls did well with this and had fun.

This was our vocabulary for the week.

In language we worked on pronouns as well as singular and plural pronouns.

In history we read about how life during the American Revolution.  We learned how Washington was a good leader and how Henry Knox was helpful in getting much needed weaponry for the Continental army. We discussed how the transportation in that time was different than what we have I day. We also made a notebook page about Henry Knox.  One big thing was that the girls learned about how unfair taxes were to the colonist. I taxes them on their tokens they earn each day and they cried! It was hard for them but the lesson was learned!

I found the Liberty's Kids videos for $5 at WalMart and the kids enjoyed watching them this week as they fit right into our history lessons. Even Ian liked them and is learning!

Our art lesson was about how the soldiers had to follow Washington and how good leaders follow Christ. We did the project a little different than the guide said but the girls got the point.

In science we finished up our unit on John Audoboun. We learned facts about birds and compared them to us as well as deomonstrated how far an eagle can see.

We are enjoying the read aloud Rabbit Hill as we discussed mood. In DITHOR the girls are liking their fantasy books and had fun finding examples of compassion and brotherly love.

In math we worked on capacity and had fun in the water!

Ian got his big cast off this week and is now in a smaller one. Emersyn cut her first tooth! We all finally went a football game this season and had a family movie night. It was really a good and fun week both in school and out! Only two more weeks and we will take off for Thanksgiving.
