Week 18

Monday:

Ian did all of his morning activities on his white board and managed to identify all 15 letters we have worked on!!  We will be working on the letter Nn this week as well a hearing stories about various kings in the Bible. Today we read about Joash and Hezrkiah. We made a crown and played King may I!

A and A are in unit 18 of Bigger. They did all of their morning activities.

We discussed adjectives in language and used that skill on our poem reading to find the adjectives in it as well as identify a new word. We listened to our hymn a few times while they worked.

Mysteries are going well and the kids loves me reading to them while they eat in the morning. Ian even joins in!

In science we read about plants that make good and those who do not called fungus. The girls added a notebook page to their science section.

In history we revisited Daniel Boone and listed ways that a rural place is different than an urban place. We read how Boone and his men took 3 weeks to carve the Wildnerness Road.

We also met Robert Fulton and leaned how he was very optimistic! That is our trait for the week in our bible reading. Robert tried to make a Roman candle and we did too. I hope his was better than ours.

Tuesday:
Co op and dance day!!!

Wednesday:

Oh boy today was one of those days for Ian, he could not rememeber or focus on anything!!  Poor boy! We did a lot of review and then I let him play his learning games on the I pad.

We did read about King Josiah and how he found part of the bible! Ian enjoys his bible time!

The girls finished their math book today!!! I am so proud of them. We will use the computer and work on their xtramath math program for the rest of this semester.

They worked on their Christmas writing bingo for their books, finished up their language section on adjectives, did a dictation passage, and listened to a a chapter of Encyclopedia Brown as well as read their own mystery assignment for the day. Our skill focus was on prediction and the girls are doing great! Our read aloud is hard to predict due to the set up of the book so we are discussing itore so in DITHOR.

In poetry we read our poem and discussed onomatopoeia and had such fun with it! The girls even added some into their own writing and cannot wait to start their stories tomorrow to add more!

In history we read about Robert Fulton and how people laughed when he sailed the first streamboat until they saw how well it worked! He was optimistic which is our bible trait! We applied our verse of Proverbs 19:21 to our lesson. We then did vocabulary for the week. Please don't be too harsh on the artwork, they get all at talent from their mom!

In science we read about how owls use their silent wings to hunt and what owl pellets are :) The girls thought it was gross! We then measures out various wingspans of owls and compare and contrasted them for our science notebook.

We also had speech, piano lessons, and AWANA today.

Thursday:

Ian worked hard on the letter N today. He did his letter hunt and practiced writing them. We read about how God wants us to marry people who love him. Ian told me that he and I could get married then :)
We then did a fun Christmas pattern page for math and read the Polar Express and colored a picture.

While Ian was working the girls read the Polar Express and them completed a wordsearch about the book. They love wordsearches!

The girls worked on finishing up their Christmas books and they did great! Audrey got the tic tac toe!

We read our mysteries and did some extra math on the computer.

In history we read about the history behind the steamboat and about the men who tried unsuccessfully to make one before Robert Fulton. Some is these men were Jamea Watt, Rumsey, And John Fitch. Fultons working steamboat was called the Clermont.

We made a paddle wheel out of spatulas to demonstrate how his boat moved. All the kids had fun with this.

We then added Robert Fulton to our timeline and added a timeline about his invention of the steamboat to our history notebook.

In science we read about all the different kinds of animals in the woods both vertebrates and invertebrates.

We then went on to read about insects and how they have compound eyes to see and made our own compound eye out of straws to demonstrate the difference in how they see compared to how we see.

We finished our day with a bible story about Jesus walking on water and how Faith and optimism caused Peter to walk with him but when Peter got scared and lacked faith and optimism he started to sink. We learned that we can do anything and be optimistic about everything if we have Jeus in our lives!!

Friday:

Today we started out with our Fun Friday ritual of sleeping in! When we got up we went our and bought Christmas donuts to have for breakfast and ate them while we watched a show! TV before school is usually a big no no ! Then for another treat we read our story book next to the Christmas tree while listening to music .

While the girls worked on reading Ian and I played letter bingo to review our letters! He did great! We reviewed and did our bible story and called it a day for him!

The girls and I did our DITHOR lesson orally after they read instead of using the workbook today :) I also let them do their dictation on their whiteboard instead of their dictation journal, another fun thing for the day!

They did math on the I pad with xtramath math and that was a nice break!

For writing today we did a project I found on teachers pay teachers. I love that site! This activity refocused them on the real meaning of Christmas.

They has to write about the who, where, what, and how of the nativity story! It was a great lesson and the girls did awesome! This was especially good since last night we went to Bethelhem Revisited presented by a local church. It is a walk through tour of what Bethlehem was like the night Jeusu was born and as you walked through you heard the story of Jesus and his birth. The kids visited various shops like candle making, fabric, baskets, bread, candy, Jewlery, and more. They were each given 5 shekels when entering to buy things at the shops :) It was very neat and all the kids and Paul and I enjoyed it!

Next week we will take off from HOD and work on finishing up our mystery books, make some Christmas projects, and do a reindeer study for science and writing. Our history will be about the events of Jesus' birth! We may make a timeline if ai can find a cute one. Ian will do his bible lessons in LHTH but the rest if his day will be spent on review, games, and fun Chriatmas lessons like the girls!
