Monday
Ian is on unit 20 this week and we are working on the letter P and reading through the story of Jonah.
I can tell it will be s fun week for him. He loves Jonah and of course when you write two p's you get pee pee! Ha! We reviewed letters and numbers today as well as drawing shapes and followings directions.
The big girls are also on unit 20! It is nice for Mommu to be on the same week in both guides. We did day 2 of the unit.
We read about the wars between the Indians and settlers which included more about Tecumsah and William Henry Harrison. Of course we played our version of war!
It was sad when we read that Harrison was only president for a month because he died.
In science we took what we learned and read about trees and sap to make a notebook entry on the layers of bark in a tree.
The girls did LOF and extra math for math and I am glad they do it independently. I can work with Ian a bit more.
In literacy we worked on the verbs am, is, and are. The girls learned the cursive a and also passed dictation passage 50. They both read for 30 minutes on their Kindles. For writing we modeled a cause and effect paragraph and will be writing one on their own this week.
We started a new hymn and a new poem for the week!! The girls love the start of a new week!!
Our new bible verse is about loyalty and we discussed it and found examples of loyalty in our lives and from our history reading.
Tuesday
Today is co op and dance day!! All we get done at home is reading :) We also get in some PE, piano practice, and technology.
Wednesday
Ian had a fun day working on shapes, numbers, letters, and reading more about Jonah! He LOvES the song this week! Here he is working in his HWOT book making shapes.
The girls are on day 3 of unit 20. They worked on their own doing reading, piano, math, and cursive while I did lessons with Ian. Their cursive is so neat!
We then worked on were and was as verbs in language. We wrote our practice on white boards. We also do dictation on them some days. Today Ally passed passage 51 but Audrey will have to redo it tomorrow.
Next week we will pick back up storytime and DITHOR.
In writing the girls planned out their own cause and effect paragraphs that they will edit and publish in their journal tomorrow.
We read our poem and found the Meyer. Always a fun activity.
We listened to and sang our hymn. We also practiced our verse and are looking and practicing ways to be and show loyalty.
In science we read about pioneer schools and how they learned to measure. We followed our reading and used our arm spans to measure. We did not do our science write up today because sometimes it's nice to take a break some days!
For history we read about the phrase " go down with the ship" and it was coined by Captain Lawerence during as battle that mortally wounded him. He did not want his crew to give up!
We did vocabulary today for our activity. The word batteries was hard for them to grasp.
Today also included speech and piano lessons and then church tonight.
Thursday
I think that Thursday is my favorite day of the week! It ish e first day we have nothing on our schedule or at least until baseball starts back in a month or so.
Ian had a lot of fun! We used playdough, magnetic letters, and pattern blocks to work on our letters, shapes, and numbers!
We retold the story of Jonah and acted it out while we sang out song. The baby lovesick and to dance to I was holding her and didn't get pictures,
A and A did their math, piano practice, reading, and cursive while I was with Ian. The cursive g gave them some problems so we will pause on our plans and practice on g for tomorrow.
We discussed and read our verse as well as listened to our hymn. In dictation Audrey is still on passage 51 while Ally is done until next week.
In language we discussed past and present tense verbs and the girls caught on well.
They both published their cause and effect paragraph in their journals.
In history we read about France's Scott Key and how he came to write the Star Spangled Banner. We did an art project to go along with it.
We went ahead and did day 5 as well today and added Tecumseh and WillIam Henry Harrison to our timeline. We went in to practice the pledge of allegiance and did our history Notebooking page on it.
In science we read about all of the animals that Pa brought from town! The field favorite was the puppy Nipper.
Tomorrow we will finish unit 20 and get a head start on unit 21 in a few areas.
Friday
Today was our Fun Friday! We slept in and watched a cartoon before school!!
Ian had fun with his learning games and puzzles! We worked on writing letters and numbers 1-7. We reviewed Jonah.
The girls enjoyed the bible story of arithmetic and her loyalty to Nii. Her faithfulness brought her into the lineage of Jesus.
The did xtramath math only today and cursive practice on boards, no workbook or new letter.
We played a fact and fiction game to introduce nonfiction. Then we made our calendars for our new DITHOR books and the girls read day one and filled in a KWL chart.
We also started our new read aloud nonfiction book, "The Balloon Boy of San Francisco". It has started out pretty good!!
In science we finished unit 20 by reading about pioneer fences and how they needed to be strong! The girls built a fence out of blocks! We also read day 1 of unit 21 about clearing land and planting. It was hard work!
We went on and read day one of unit 21 about a young Andrew Jackson and hi hot temper! We then made a small map of the streets surrounding our house for geography!
We will have lots of recess outside for the rest of the he day and a picnic lunch!! Bring on the weekend!
