Ian is on a review week this week ;) There is no song for the unit so far and all letter activities are reviews so his day was short!
We are still working on counting one to one. We also read about Daniel and how much he loved God!
The big girls are on unit 21. We did most of day 2 today. Tomorrow is co op all morning followewd by dance class so we don't get a chance for too much school at home.
We read more about Andrew Jackson in history and how he got his nickname Old Hickory. As a fun project we had an art lesson to make a hat like Andrew wore. The girls had fun with this.
We worked more on cursive writing. The girls and I read more in our nonfiction storytime book and they did lesson 2 in nonfiction of DITHOR. They also had 30 minutes of reading at the doctor this morning.
In writing we are reading a book and doing various activities with it. Today it was a fun review on cause and effect
We worked more on past and present tense verbs in language. We also did a dictation passage. We read our poem, found the new words, and the rhyming pattern. This finished up our literacy for the day.
In math we only did xtramath and this was done in the car on the way to the doctor! I am so thankful for portable technology!
We also did our science notebook entry. We read about animals that eat chickens and how pioneers used an animals tracks to identify it. The girls drew a fox, weasel, and skunk along with their tracks.
We also read and did our bible verse during breakfast :) It was nice having us all sit down together pray for our meal and our day and then dive into our lesson!
Tuesday
We had Co op 9-1 and dance class in the afternoon for one kiddo and a play date for the other!
The girls did get in 30 minutes of reading and piano practice for tomorrow's lesson as well as their PE from dance, co op, and our church gym.
Wednesday
Ian had some music, dancing, and theatre today!! We read about Daniel praying to God and going against the Kings rule. It was a fun morning! We reviewed letters and numbers and practiced our one to one counting.
The girls had a fun day too! For science we made Johnny cakes and so for lunch I made the kids a pioneer lunch! Cold ham slices, apples, cheese, and a johnnycake! They LOVED it!!!
In DITHOR as well as storytime we are focusing on main idea and details.. Our storybook is wonderful! We are enjoying The Balloon Man of San Francisco. The girls are doing good with main idea and detail but often forget when I ask them to tell me what those words mean. I think we may need more visuals or a weekly quiz!
In writing we used our book to write antonyms. This is always fun! The girls do not think of it as writing!
In history we read about the Battle of New Orleans and how Andrew Jackson won it! As a fun thing we listened o the song on YouTube and the girls thought it was great! The songwriter, Jimmy Driftwood is from our state and my husbands hometown of Mountain View, Arkansas. Their daddy can't wait to share more.
As our activity we did vocabulary for the unit.
We finished our day with Ian's speech and the girls piano lessons. Tonight we will have AWANA ;)
Thursday
Today was an exciting day at our house! Ian read his first sentences! I am so proud of him, he Amazes me every day with his progress. Here is a picture of the sentence that he wrote all by themselves. I like Superman. The other picture is him reading his abc chart to his baby sister.
The girls finished day four and day five of this unit. It was fun for them too with today's lessons. They did very well. Tomorrow we will move the unit 22.
The girls did math, cursive writing, language, independent reading, piano practice, and listened to story time. We are enjoying our nonfiction book so much!
We read a bible story about Deborah out of the book of Judges. We learned that she had to decide to follow God and so did Barack to defeat the Seira army. When we decide to follow God when follow him in all parts of our life.
We read about a different battle in history. It was about the Pirates of Tripoli and how they stole the American ship Philadelphia. The Americans got it back with some trickery. We acted out this fun battle in the sink!
We also reviewed about Andrew Jackson and added him to our timeline. We then did a notebook page with three facts about him.
In science we read about how important honey was to the pioneers. We learned how they tracked bees and what they used honey for. We then learned how a bee finds nectar. They can see ultraviolet light that we can not.
In writing we wrote a letter from the Rabbi's point of view in the book It Could Always Be Worse. The problem the girls wanted solved was how to make school shorter! They advised the teacher on a lot of things!
Ian had a fun review day with pattern blocks, letter games, and art! He made a lion mask to go with out story about Daniel in the lions den!
The girls did their learning logs for weekly review. We also got in all of day one of unit 22.
We took a trip down memory lane with grandma Robertson in science. We leaned about her trip from Scitland to here and how important the land was to her and her husband.
We briefly touched on our new verse. Song, and poem for the unit.
An important highlight of the day is that my baby girls is now 11 months old!!
We are looking forward to a nice and quiet weekend!
