Unit 28

What a start to the week. The stomach bug has claimed 4 out of the 6 of us including Mommy!!!! Daddy had to take a day off work to help out. Thankfully we were all hit at night so we slept in and did a little school late in the day.

Monday
We had a light day on the couch! Ian just wrote his letters and numbers with daddy and read books!! He was feeling better and Daddy was not sick, just helping. He loves working with Daddy!

The girls listened as I read about the Wright brothers! We learned about a toy helicopter their father brought them from New York and how fascinated they were to see how it worked! We used paper to demonstrate that gravity pulls it down.

We so read about the Wright family mother and father and their early life together. Father Wright was a bishop and traveled a lot. He sent his books by boat to his new home in Oregon. We looked at the three routes to Oregon during that time and talked about the pros and cons of each.

In science we read about Pa Roberson and his brother finding land for the family's home. We learned about some of the early shelters they built and which land was best for farming. They picked. It based on the trees that grew there. We made this our notebook page.

We introduced our new verse and character trait of being cheerful. We just read our poem and heard our hymn.

In language we did some fun rhyming. Reading was on Kindles since we are done with humor in storytime and DITHOR. We will start our project later this week.

In math we practiced five facts and that was all! We were exhausted by this point! It took an hour to get this all done and we called it a day!!

Tuesday
Co op, dance class, and baseball practice!! Reading and piano practice too! What a day!!

Wednesday
Ian was on fire today with his work!! Since we finished his HWOT book I printed off some March themed review pages for us this month. We worked on the letter Vv and he has it!!

The girls were on day 3 of the unit. We readier about the Wright brothers and how they included their little sister. We then did vocabulary for the week.

We reviewed our poem and found the rhyme. We read our devotion out of Little Pillows and discussed being cheerful. We also read about our new hymn Take My Life and Let it Be. We then read and sang along.

In language we worked in rhyming some more. We wrote our verse for cursive practice. We also did dictation. For erring we worked on writing specific details.

In math we worked on multiplying and dividing by 5.

In reading and storytime we made character puppets!! The kids will act out a favorite part of their humors books later this week!

Even the baby loves when we read or discuss books!

We ended with science and found out how a popcorn kernel pop!! The heat of the air makes steam which cracks or pops the kernel!

We had piano lessons today and AWANA in the evening! It was great to have a "normal" day around here!

Thursday

Ian and I worked in the letter v, counting to 20, writing numbers, sight words, his last name, writing a simple sentence, bible, and fun March sheets!! We also read a few books and danced to our weekly bible song.

The girls worked on day 4 of unit 28. We started with history and read more about the Wright brothers and their sister. Orville saves so up money to buy Sterchins a nice doll for Christmas. We added both Wilbur and Orville to our main history timeline and also started a timeline just about them for our history notebook.

We read about how pioneers kept their food in pits or root cellars. The girls did well on their narration.

In poetry we found the rhyme. We also did some rhyming and poetry in language. I carried this over to art where the girls had to make a gift card. We did the HOD art lesson but I also had them write a small rhyming poem to go inside since we have been working on it in language. They turned out cute!

In writing we finished our study of descriptive paragraphs by writing one in journals. They both did well!!

For reading we finished our puppets and DITHOR take home page. I then introduced realistic fiction by reading a book in that genre. We also filled out reading calendars for our next books. The girls also read 30 minutes on their Kindle.

We studies our bible and verse and did 50 jumping jacks! We then listened to and sang our hymn.

We worked on a five fact review forath along with xtramath.

We did dictation as well and are up to passage 75!

Friday
It is another rainy and yucky day!! We slept in a little and then had some short school as the kids would say!

Ian and I had bible time and learned that Jesus takes care of our every need of we love and trust him so we do not need to worry! We reviewd letters and worked on sight words and Ian wrote his first and last name!!

The girls finished unit 28 today with a few activities we did not get to yet this week.

We did our bible lesson and the girls are doing well finding the verses and answering what I ask. We then sang our hymn.

We did some language and a dictation passage. They also finished a math review. This took us all of 15 minutes to get done :)

The girls started their new DITHOR books in the realistic fiction genre. We went over their work and reviewed what realistic fiction is and then they read their assigned pages.

The girls did write in their learning logs for cursive and writing today. Five facts does not take them long to do!

We ended with science and read about soap making. Unfortunately I did not have the supplies needed to make soap :( It looks like this weekend we will try it out!!

My little helper was entertained by playing  in her car and snacking! She had her shots yesterday and was not feeling too good. She is a tough cookie though!

Next week I have some fun St. Patrick's things to throw in as we head into unit 29! After that we will take off a week for Speing Break and then be ready to finish Bigget and Little Hands, Wow!
