We are excited that we booked our trip to Disney this summer!! It will be hard to get school done but we have motivation!! I am going to put together fun lessons for our last two weeks of school in May after our HOD guides are completed and we will learn before our trip. If anyone has any great fun and inexpensive ideas, that would be GReAT!!
Monday
Ian started on the letter u for the week. We made a cute umbrella and he was so happy to use markers!! We read about the Lost Sheep and The Boy who left home. We acted out each story and then Ian retold me in his words. We disused a simple truth behind each one and prayed to be like Jesus. We also worked on numbers.
The girls worked on day 2 of unit 27. We dug into our verse and poem and loudly sang our hymn! For cursive practice they wrote out their verse.
I am combing language and writing this week. Language is about being specific in your details and our writing is over descriptive paragraphs. I have a few weeks devoted to this. The girls did well today on the two as they write a short descriptive paragraph about a picture in RS 2.
In math we worked on fours again this time with dividing. I am hoping that all the review will help us better prepare for Singapore 3 a and b next year. I think I have decided to go on as they girls are doing well and the program is inexpensive and we are used to it. I will go slower and add in more off math fun days!
We are s reding Homer Price for Humor and are on pace to finish this week!! We enjoy it though I do have to explain some of the funny parts!! The girls are on day 11 of their DITHOR humor books. We did a retelling of what they read for today.
In science we did a notebook page comparing and contrasting pioneer general stores to our stores today and the girls breezes through it!! Their favorite difference was we have online shopping!
In history we read about a cattle drive from a a cowboy's point of view!! It was really fun to act it out with cereal!! When the girls got to eat their cereal after the activity it was funny hearing them refer to themselves as the meat packing plant!
We ended the day with piano practice and reading on the Kindles!
Tuesday
We finally had a normal Tuesday! We had co op all morning followed by dance class and Ian's first baseball practice of the season! We did manage to get in piano practice and some reading.
During conop we got the proofs of the kids first real school pictures. I was surprised that all four of them smiled!
Ally got her costumes in at dance class today and boy was she excited! She cannot wait for the recital in May!
Wednesday
Here is a photo of my little man looking for the letter u!
We worked on numbers and letters. We also leaned that the man who left home came back!! We had fun attempting an art project to depict it!
The girls did day 3. We started with our devotion and bible followed by hymn singing. We went into poetry and found that though some lines rhyme there is no pattern.
In math we are reviewing fours with multipliction and division.
In cursive we are working on a neat signature. We also did dictation in cursive!
For history we read about Rosa Cristopho and her trip from Italy to America. The girls were fascinated by her tale! We did vocabulary for our activity.
In writing and language we worked on being descriptive. The girls each wrote a paragraph about summer that includes what they heard, saw, and felt. I was blown away with how good they did!! I almost cried! My reluctant writer Audrey wrote about hearing her little brother scream as daddy threw him in the water and all the girls giggled!!
In science we read about how the pioneers had to pay for letters before stamps. We made an envelope and sealed it with wax! The girls loved it!
We finished the day with piano lessons and watching for more winter weather!
Thursday
More winter weather arrives ;( We went on with school and then to go play on it.
Ian did all of his work with Daddy watching and cheering him on! Daddy was so proud of his progress this year and Mommy is too! We worked on sight words and wrote a simple sentence and he remembered to put the dot at the end :) We acted out our bible story about the rich man having a party and his rich friends could not be bothered to come but the poor, blind, and sick enjoyed it.
The girls read and practiced their verse with sit ups!! We also sang our hymn. For poetry we discussed imagery and the girls drew a picture to match the poem.
We took imagery a litte further with our language and descriptive paragraphs. It was a nice fit to practice all three together and once again the girls wrote some good paragraphs! I am very pleased with their writing progress! We are enjoying RS as well.
In math we finished up our 4 review and will start on fives next week. They also worked on facts in xtra math. They have a challenge to finish up both addition and subtraction facts before we go to DisneyWorld.
For science we read about the Robertsons building their house! All of the neighbors came to help! Willy got to put a small tree on top, which is supposed to bring good luck! The girls had to retell what I read. They did well and had little prompting :)
For reading we finished our storytime book of Homer Price and really enjoyed it!! The girls also finished their book and will start their project next week. They had 30 minutes of reading on their Kindles as well.
In history we read about the Spanish American war and how it only lasted a few months but was the first time since the Cival War that the Americans fought with each other instead of against each other. We added the war to our timeline. We also learned about latitude and longitude and practiced finding our state and other places. They had fun racing each other to see who could find the location faster.
The kids has some fun snow day PE after lessons today!! Daddy helped them build their first snowman of the year!
When they came in we made lunch together and then snuggled up for a few episodes of PBS :) The girls practiced piano and did some reading. It looks like tomorrow will be another day home with Daddy as we finish up unit 27.
Friday
Ian played bingo, used pattern blocks, and watched a phonics video!!
He was really exited that we finished his first HWOT book!! He did so well and he aced the assessment at the end! He still had trouble with drawing a triangle but everything else was right on!!
The girls started with Bible. I have them find and news the story hike I ask them the questions from the guide. I think this will help them for Preparing next year.
While I worked and played with Ian the girls wrote five things they learned this week in their learning log in cursive!! They also took out journals and wrote a descriptive paragraph about what they saw, felt, and heard on their snow day
They did xtramath and a fun math worksheet of subtraction practice as well. They did piano practice and also 30 minutes of reading. We had a day off of DITHOR and storytime today.
In history they added to their notebook making a page about John Muir.
