We finished unit #3

Monday
We took the day off to celebrate Labor Day with friends and family! Daddy was off and a few of my old high school girlfriends and their families were in town so we enjoyed it! Ian has his first two baseball games of the fall season, Audrey will start her softball practices, Ally has dance, and we all have co op and AWNANA this week! Today is about the only day we will all be home with no where to go and nothing on our schedule! We still plan to finish up unit 3 this week though the kids will have a bit more work to get done in three days but we can do it!

Tuesday
The kids did all of their school work at co op today. They are all still enjoying their classes except Emersyn. She tends to want to stay with Mommy and help me teach the Kindergarten class! The big girls do enjoy getting homework and I am so proud that as soon as we get home they put away their things and then start on their homework! Ally also had her dance class this today which is the highlight of her week!

Wednesday
Since we are trying to finish up unit three this week, I told the kids we would not do keyboarding lesson this week : ) Ian will have to go full speed for all three days and the girls will do the full day 4 on Friday. I am confident we can do it and begin unit 4 next week! Our mission is to get up and start a little sooner and if needed do a little work during the baby's nap time. Today we rocked it, we were all done by lunch and that included a trip to the vet for the cat!!

LHFHG Day 3: Ian did GREAT putting in a full day, no half speed. Of course his math and phonics are still review skills for him as is the fine motor work but still we did it!

*Calendar: Ian is still forgetting that we are now in September and not August but thats okay, I still do that sometimes : )
*Phonics: We worked on the letter X in AAR as well as reviewed all of our letters and sounds and some sight words.
*Fine Motor: Ian wrote his C's and his O's and then got to color in his DIC book.
*Math: Number 10 was our focus!! Ian can easily write his numbers 0-10. Today he had to read a number and draw that many objects and he did GREAT!
*History/Rhyme: We read about Abraham and how he obeyed God even when it was hard! God loved Abraham and his faithfulness. We did our rhyme but only did the Abraham part. They are a little long so we are choosing just to use the part we are studying for the day.
*Bible/Music: Ian can say his verse and also his AWANA verse for tonight!! I am so proud of him. He enjoys his song with his HOD verse.
*Rotating: We acted out obeying today using directional words. I had Ian stand next to the couch, under the table, on top of the bench, things like that.
*Storytime: Ian was excited to read more about Reddy since we did the letter x and there in an x in the word fox. Today in our reading we learned that Granny thought that Johnny Skunk stole her chicken. He backed her into a brier patch at the end and we can't wait to see what happens.
*PE: Game time at AWANA : )

Preparing Day 3.1
*Reading: After a weekend of spy shows we started mystery books today! We read through all of the components and then I let the girls read. They both chose a Geronimo Stilton book. Today was just reading no book work.
*Writing: We made an outline about Solomon that included the problem and how the characters feel about it.
*Language: We did a review lesson on capitalization and sentence diagramming. We did the capitalization practice orally but I had them write out their diagrams and they both are doing much better. The understood you is still a little problem.
*History/Story time: We read about Jabeth and his tribe going on a wholly mammoth hunt. We learned how they got them to go over a cliff and then killed them while they were wounded so that no one got hut. The women were ready to skin the meat and skins and everyone helped get ready for winter. The girls did really well on their oral narration. We also read in our Great Ice Age book about how they cooked and about the saber tooth tiger. The girls both said they would not to live during that time period because you cooked and stored your food in the ground and it was too cold!
*History Project: Since the girls have to also draw a wholly mammoth for their independent history and their first paintings of the bull were so big, we are done with this for the week! Their cave paintings will just have a bull!
*Independent History Project:
*Bible: AWANA verses
*Math: The girls did a review page over multiplication and division and scored a 100!!!!
*Music: Piano lessons today with Mrs. Angie at PawPaw's music store!
*PE: Game time at AWANA : )

Thursday
Ian started the day with a nice bruise and scrape on his cheek. He was making his bed in the dark! Today still ran pretty smoothly despite our late start. We cleaned the house first and started school about 9:30 instead of the usual 8:30.

LHFHG Day 4
*Calendar: We have been in school for 27 days!!! Yay!!!
*Phonics: We reviewed all of our letters and did the letter Y in AAR. Ian still has a little trouble writing them but he has the sound down!!!
*Fine Motor: Ian colored a few animals to work on neat work and he wrote some Q's making sure to go the correct way.
*Math: He plugged right along with his counting and number writing skills. I am so proud of him.
*Storytime: We read about Granny Fox getting stopped by Robby Coon who was laughing because Johnny Skunk did not steal her chicken but it was Goshawk! Ian wrote part of a little sentence that said Ian is happy. Granny Fox is mad.
*History/Rhyme: We read about Esau and Jacob and how Jacob tricked their father Issac. Esau was upset about the lie. We also did this part of the rhyme.
*Bible/Music: We listened to our CD and worked on our verse.
*Rotating: We practiced our sense of smell today by smelling different spices! I also let Ian watch a Magic School Bus episode about smell which he LOVED!
*PE: Ian has his first baseball game of the all season tonight!!!! Go Hitmen, especially my sweet #15!

Preparing Day 3.2
*Reading: Mystery Day #2 took place today. The girls did their reading and then had to draw a prediction as well as write 5 things about their book.
*Writing: Rough draft day!! This fit in great with our language lessons over proof reading for punctuation and spelling! We did play a game where they had to use good adjectives, strong verbs, and ly words (aka adverbs) to get a point! It was fun and their writing was rough but we proofread and corrected mistakes.
*Language: We combined lesson 23 and 24 into our writing today! It was a hit and a break in so much writing for the girls.
*Poetry: We read our poem and talked about Robert Louis Stevenson helping his father and grandfather who were lighthouse builders. That is why many of his poems talk about ships and the sea. We also discussed being in a rainstorm at Disney World this summer as a connection to the text.
*Bible: We did a two in one lesson for Bible today. The girls did their quiet time and I also let them go ahead and add verse 4 to their common place book instead of tomorrow. It went well and will save a little time tomorrow.
*Math: The girls did another review and scored GREAT!!! An A for both of them, even though they did miss a few problems. They LOVE seeing a grade on their math papers!!
*Science: The girls read about mosquito and other bugs in the Arctic tundra. They had to read and answer questions, which they are able to do with ease! I am really proud of this skill they are building! Thanks HOD!
*Music: The girls practiced their new songs and worked on some theory.
*PE: The girls each chose to do the ellipitcal while reading a book! It was a two in one activity not to mention a time saver!

Friday
Man, I put in a FULL day with both guides today and I thought our day would never end! I am so thankful we are going half speed right now! It makes the days shorter and the kids and momma happy!

LHFHG Day 5
*Calendar: Today the girls wanted to lead Ian in calender so I gave in and played with the little one! They all three did a good job and I was surprised that Ian listened to them!
*Phonics: We finished up all of the capital letters today! Ian wanted to write a note on his zebra page so he wrote "I love zebra." We played a cute game where we talked like a snail and said words slow and then like a cheetah and said them fast. He did very well.
*Fine Motor: Ian wrote the letter G without my help and he also worked on the concepts of larger and smaller.
*Math: We did a lot of counting activities and games today!
*Story time: We read about Ol Possum feeling sorry for how bad hurt and hungry Reddy Fox is, even though he did keep teasing him. Everyone is hoping that Granny Fox can bring Reddy some food so he can start to get better.
*History/Rhyme: We read how Issac went out and found his wives Rachel and Rebecca and then he went back home where he was surprised that his brother Esau forgave him and welcomed him. God was in control of all of it. Ian did not want to do his rhyme today and I didn't make him. One less battle to pick for the day!
*Bible/Music: I am so proud of Ian and his memory work and learning his verse!
*Rotating: Ian did art today! We used a nail and poked holes in his name on black paper and then put green paper behind it and talked about how we cannot hide from God.
*PE: Ian has his second game tonight!

Preparing Day 4
*Reading: I only assigned the girls to read today and no book work. I knew today had a lot of writing in our main HOD lessons. I felt bad for them so I lessened the load. I was the best mom EVER!! They are enjoying their mystery books and always tell me all about the main character Geronimo.
*Writing: Today was publishing day!! The girls added to their story about Solomon by putting in part 2 of the story.
*Language: We did a lot of review on white boards today to save on some writing. The girls either answered orally or wrote on their boards. I was happy to see that sentence diagramming is getting better, even the understood you!
*Poetry: The girls drew a picture to go with their poem and also read it to me and their little brother. The lesson was to share the poem in a special way.
*Bible: The girls listened to their song and said their verse.
*Math: We started working on multiplying two digit numbers with zero. The girls did well though I have to take down our multiplication fact poster because they have wandering eyes!! I showed them the trick to count the zeros and then add that many to the main fact.
*Science: Experiment day!!! The girls had to find out how a caterpillar can not freeze to death in the tundra. We froze water, sugar water, and salt water. The salt water did not freeze as well. We discussed how some insects in the tundra make a chemical that acts like antifreeze and keeps them from freezing like the salt did to the water.
*History Reading/Story time: Today was written narration day! After reading we wrote down some ideas using the 5 W's and then I had them write in cursive. They did very well and I am proud of their work. I also read from the Ice Age book about life during that time and how they made jewelry, paint, and tents.
*Independent History: The girls had to draw and color a wholly mammoth. I think they did well.
*Rotating: Timeline added the Tower of Babel.
*Music: The girls practiced their Frozen songs on the piano today and had so much fun with them!
*PE: They worked out with Mommy this morning!!!

It was a fun unit and we are excited to move on to unit 4 in both Preparing and LHFHG! We worked hard to finish unit 3 this week.

The kids did well on their video this week. Audrey shared the part of Psalm 1 that she has memorized, Ian showed off those mad math skills, and Ally showed her drawing of the wholly mammoth and a little about what we learned about them this unit.

  1. What a fun week! Is it just me, or did it seem like we NEEDED that day off Monday? Transition into school has been hard this year.

Looks like you had a great week :) Glad your kids know that you are the best mom ever! Thanks for linking up at the HOD Weekly Recap.
