Unit 25 was about young soldiers in the Continental army. We read about Richard and Levi. We learned what their jobs were and found some of the places they fought. The girls also picked one of the boys to write a letter to in their journals. They both picked Richard. Our bible verse was John 15:13 and we talked about how the soldiers sacrificed for our country and how Jesus died for our sins
Since both girls finished their ETC books we decided to just focus on spelling the rest of the year. We worked on ow words and played spelling tic tac toe but their favorite thing this week was stamping out their words.
We started a new genre, humor, in our read aloud with a reding focus on cause and effect and the character trait of joy.
We are still reading the nature science reader from the ER set. The girls reading response for the week was a review of fact and opinion. They are each still reading a chapter book for independent reading.
In math we took a break from Singapore and played math bingo to review and practice adding and subtracting with regrouping. We also got out the patten blocks to make animals and let Ian make his letters. They love this! I have it left from MFW from last year. The girls also worked in their xtramath on the computer everyday.
In language we worked on correct spelling errors in DLR and on plural nouns in HOD's language lesson of the week.
The weather was fantastic so PE was hours of outside play time! All three kids had their co op classes for enrichment, the girls had piano for music, and Ian had his speech therapy.
In art the girls did a lesson in their extra art books and also made a coat of arms for a stuffed animal. This was based in the weeks bible lesson.
I also read the book My Great Aunt Arizona and we made a postcard from one of the characters point of view.
The girls also finished their chapter book they were reading as well as still kept up on their piano practice.
We are planning to take a week off when the baby gets here and the let Daddy take over school starting with unit 26. We shall see how this works out! It will be a few weeks until our next blog, we will be busy!
