We were 2 hours from home so we took him to the small hospital at the town were were in because we didn't know how bad he was hurt. All they could do was an x ray to confirm the beak and give him some Mortin. All if that took 2 hours in a small town hospital ER with no other patients! We had to take him to Arkansas Children's Hosptital three hours away, he was not bad enough for an ambulance ride! That was the most horrible ride of my life! Ian was screaming in pain and there was nothing we could do!
We dropped off our girls when we for to our house and then sped the 45 minutes to ACH, where Ian was not given any pain meds until 10 pm, he broke his leg at 3pm!! My big guy was so brave and tough!! He is in a splint this week and had to be immobile until Friday when we hope to get a hard cast put on!! Needless to say all of his activities and lessons were canceled this week. On tip of that, the baby learned to crawl and has been crawling for me to hold her while I teach the girls!
I did manage to get school done with the big girls! We had fun extending our learning about Benjamin Franklin! We read about his travels for his home in Boston to Philadelphia. We met his wife Deborah and also leaned more about the thigs he did in his life after he left his older brother James. In their notebook pages thee girls wrote two of their favorite sayings from Poor Richards Almanac and illustrated them.
The girls created an invention this week to develop and understanding of how Ben likes to solve problems. They each developed a pill. One stops allergies and one stops you from breaking a bone. We started by seeing what kind of problem we could solve and how. These pills they invented are HUGE!
In geography we demonstrated how maps are a birds eye view of things by looking at things from a birds eye view and drawing them.
Math was spent doing two review tests which both girls passed! They both made an 85% on review 3. Audrey made a 100% on review 4 and Ally made a 96%!! We will start fractions next week.
Art was making a kite because we read about Franklin's kite experiment. We used colors and learned to measure a diamond shape. We added this event to our timeline this week.
We are still reading Farmer Boy for story time and working on setting and the charger traits of Fairh and perseverance. We made a setting map and a character map this week. They girls are reading new host oval fiction books in DITHOR. They have both liked these books. They did a setting map on their own this week as well.
Our bible verse was Proverbs 2:6 over wisdom. Wisdom is from God and should be used with care and to always honor God. We also read about King Solomon and how he became so wise.
Our poem Philosophy taught us about choosing your attitude and also about how to pause at a long dash called an Em dash.
We are on our last week of our song, Our God in Help in Ages Past. The girls can now sing the while song.
Ian should start back with unit 10 next week and the girls will move on to unit 11. I hope and pray that Ian gets a hard cast and can move around a bit in it! His week was hard dealing with his bathroom issues and keeping him down and still all while chasing a baby who has the new found freedom of crawling!!
