Unit 11

This week was better a Ian was in his hard cast and able to move around a bit more!

Ian worked on unit 10 of LHTH which was a review of letters E,F,G, and H. He can now identify F and H. The other two still give him trouble. We finished our number book and read and acted out bible stories.

The girls worked on unit 11 which introduced the slave trade that started in 1735. We met Venture Smith a slave that was brought from Africa and made it to the new colonies and eventually bought his freedom and that of his family. We also met Thomas Jefferson and  learned that he owned slaves but was a good and smart man who wrote the Declaration of Independence. We also read about a soldier named William Putnam who captured a wolf and about a teacher named Benezet who was a good a kind teacher in that day.

The girls added Smith and Jefferson to their timeline. They also added the path of the slave trade to their map. Ine other fun thing was that thy called their Nanny and talke about her coming from Japan to America. Our study also included learning about the climate zones.

In science we are still learning about John Audoboun and his love of birds. The girls learned about the three kinds of feathers that help birds fly and see when in their science notebook. We made an edible nests, observed and see a thrush from the internet, and leaves more about John's life as a young boy.

In bible we read and studied Proverbs 20:22 about perseverance and studied how Joseph persevered when his brothers sold him.

Our poem study was the poem Hold On and we worked on the importance of repetition.

We finished learning about verbs and moved on to pronouns in language. In writing the girls wrote a cinquain poem and did so well! They really loves this and eat to write them again.

In vocabulary we only did two words this week. I didn't have them to the word tavern as I didn't want them to know it right now.

In reading we are still listening to Farmer Boy and loving it. We will finish next week. Both girls finished their books on historical fiction and we will do a project next week with them. They have masters identifying the setting and finding examples of Faith and perseverance.

In math we worked on fractions and the girls leaned how to compare them. The smaller the number the bigger the fraction and the bigger the number the smaller the fraction.

Our new hymn is Amazing Grace which he girls know almost all of! They are also working on Christmas music in piano.

In art we tried to make a cave to represent the wolf story we read in history about Putnam.

Our week also consisted if co op and dance as well as lots is outside play time in this gorgeous fall weather!!
