What a way to start the week!! The kids had a good day but our afternoon was crazy! The baby was sick and ended up needing an IV for being dehydrated! Prayerfully all is well now!! Here are two picture of my sweetie today!
Ian is on unit 23 and we are learning about the miracles Jesus did and the letter s. Ian called it the curvy letter s :) We worked in the color orange and the number 10 as well today.
The girls are on unit 24. Our character trait is service and our verse is Proverbs 11:24.
We talked about Samuel Morris and the invention of the telegraph. We learned that it took many people and a lot of ideas to get the telegraph to work. We watched a YouTube video of Morse Code and wrote out messages in Morse Code. We learned that while working on the telegraph and before that Morse, painted
portraits to earn money. For art today the kids followewd written directions andade their own portrait of themselves. In science we read about how the pioneers used to keep track of time without using clocks. They used the sun, shadows, an hourglass, candles, and those who could had a clock. This was our science page.
The girls finished their DITHOR books and are working in crossword puzzles as an ending project. They will work on these all week.
In our story time we finally read about Ready flying in a balloon! The girls were so excited. We did an oral retelling of the chapter and the girls did great.
In language we are working on paragraphs. Both girls worked on dictation passge 60. We are still working on cursive lowercase letters.
For writing we are reading the book Flossie and the Fox and doing activities. Today we make a KWL of what we know about foxes and the read the book and talked about it.
For math the girls did xtramath and stoked on subtracting 3 digit numbers.
Tuesday
Co op and dance for the big girls today!! Ian went with Pawpaw in the morning to doan stuff and I stayed home with the baby!
Wednesday
Baby girl seems much better today!! That made today go so much smoother! Ian and I read about Jesus bringing a dead man back to life and discussed death. He understands a little as he has a good friend of his pass away about 7 months ago. He told me right away that Jesus needed P in heaven so she can't come back to life! She is his angel.
We also worked on s, counting, writing, and numbers.
The girls worked on day 3 of their unit.
We read about the telegraph and what a long and stressful process it was to complete but it provided a good service for the country.
Our vocabulary words were rattan, patent, and exhibit. We found the meaning, wore a sentence and drew a picture for each one. The girls are getting very good at using the dictionary.
We read our bible devotion and talked about service and having a heart like Jesus. We then sang our hymn and read our poem.
In language we worked on a few more lowercase letters in cursive and finding the subject of a paragraph. We then did some comparing and contrasting in writing using the book Flossie and the Fox.
We read a chapter of our storyte book and it was sooo exciting!! Ready is stuck in the air in a balloon!! He finally landed but was lost!
The girls finished their projects for their nonfiction books. They each made a wordsearch using key words about the books and topics they read about. They loved this project!
In math we reviewed subtracting 98 and 99 from three digit numbers. Our review is going well and I can see many concepts sticking better!! We may just continue on with Singapore 3A in the fall.
Science was so much fun for the girls! We read more about the peddler that visited the Robertsons and how he carried his water on a canvas bag! To demonstrate we made a paper cup!
We ended the day with piano lessons and then church.
Thursday
Ian worked hard on recogzong numbers 1- 10and letters a to s! We also spent time writing them. We read aboutJesus calming the storm and made a storm in a jar!!
All of the kids did bible today and we read about Samuel hearing God's voice and how he was a service to Him and Eli. We talked about how even as kids they can serve. The girls also copied their verse doe the week and Ian worked on a verse for Cubbies. We all sang our hymn.
The girls did a review in math and did great copying problems and working them!
They worked on a few letters in cursive as well as two dictation passages, and found topics in paragraphs.
We finished the book The Balloon Boy of San Francisco!! It was a cute book and we all enjoyed it. We were a little disappointed that a few characters were fictional but that Ready was real!!!
I introduced our next genre for DITHOR which is humor!! We will get books this weekend!!
In writing we wrote cinquain poems about an animal in the book Flossie and the Fox. They were very good.
In history we finished up Samuel Morse by doing our history notebook page which was copying the Morse Code alphabet. We also added him to our timeline. We then read about Charles Goodyear aka the India Rubber Man. We were glad for his service of providing useable rubber. We went on a rubber hunt!
It was a busy day but Daddy is off Friday and Monday so we are pushing through to enjoy some time off with him!! We may do a few small "school" things but nothing too difficult.
Friday
We made a Valentine zoo!! All of our animals were made out of hearts! Ian made an orange and green panda. Ally made a snail. Audrey made a black and white panda and then Ian helped make a lion for Emersyn.
Ian did a few fun things for review.
We so read about the Gold Rush and Dame Shirley and how she set out to write about the mining camps! As a fun thing we stakes a claim and found GOLD!! Then the kids had to pay for the chance to stay up for movie, 1 coin, popcorn was 2 coins! It was a blast and the kids loved it! It was a great way to end the week!!
