Unit 26

Monday

What a way to start the week!! Our baby was at the ER yesterday. She has a double ear infection and a ruptured ear drum :( and today is her first birthday!! Prayerfully she is better today! We had her party over the weekend. Today was also another snow day! Yes I said snow not ice!! We took full advantage!

Our morning started with a family tradition of birthday pancakes! The big kids and mommy ate early. Daddy and Em slept in so they ate later. They needed the rest :)

While Daddy and the baby got some much needed rest, we did school. It was too cold to go out yet.

Ian is  on a review week! We read about the wise man building his house on a rock and made our own version of the story out of blocks and then again in art with paper.

The girls did day 2 of unit 26. We started with DITHOR and cursive practice while while I worked with Ian. They also practiced piano.

We then did dictation and language. We wrote on using the exact words when writing. I also read from our humor book,  Homer Price.

We reviewed in math and then worked on the 4 family in multipliction and xtramath math.

We read our poem and sang our hymn and then worked on our weekly verse.

In science we drew pictures of the tools used for cutting hay.

In history we read about Big Joe Bailey escaping his slave life with the Underground Railroad and Harriet Tubman. It fit perfectly with black history month!! I also pulled out a few books for further reading.

We practiced how the slaves used the stars to guide them. We watched a YouTube video on the big and Little Dipper and later in the day we watched a Magic School Bus video on stars.

For PE the kids played in the snow!!!

Then after lunch and clean up each of the girls looked up a recipe. Audrey looked up and made snow ice cream and Ally looked up and made hot chocolate. It was science, reading, math, and life skills all in one!! We had our snacks when we watched our science video.

It was such a fun day!! We accomplished so much and had fun family time! We enjoyed a day off with Daddy and celebrating our little caboose's first birthday!

Tuesday

Today was another ice/snow day. Bad roads caused co op classes and dance classes as well as Daddy's school to be closed. We went right on with our school as normal :)

Ian did his work and we did some sight word work and simple sentence writing. We read the story about the Good Samaritan and acted it out and well as started listening to a song on the beatitudes.

The girls worked on day 3 of the unit. While I worked with Ian they did their reading and cursive practice as well as piano practice.

We read more about the Civil War in history and learned that the two sides fought and that no one was a real winner. We did our vocabulary for our activity.

In science we read about how pioneers used the clouds to predict the weather. We bundled up and did the same!!

In math we are working on the four family in multipliction.

Storytime went well and though I have to explain some of the humor in the book the girls like it. We worked on cause and effect today.

Writing a summary is our skill focus for writing and we are working on putting things in our own words.

We did cursive, language, and dictation. We are passage 68 of dictation. In language we are working in finding and using exact words in writing.

We also read our devotional in bible, sang our hymn, and found a rhyming pattern in poetry.

We finished in almost record time today, 2 hours!! It helped that daddy was  home for baby duty!!

The rest of the afternoon we will play outside and then cuddle and watch a movie and then make a family dinner!

Wednesday

Now that Ian is out of speech :) we do not have to rush around as much on Wednesday mornings!!

Ian reviewed his letters and numbers, practiced his cutting skills by cutting red shapes, and reviewed the Good Smaritian story.

The girls were on day 4 of the unit. They did their DITHOR, cursive, and math while I worked with Ian.

We did some personification in piety, heard our hymn, read and copied our bible verse, did dictation, and worked in our language books. I also read aloud from our humor book. In

In science we read about harvest time and all the hard work that went into it.

For writing we modeled a a summary and wrote one together.

In history we read about Orlando French an his experience fighting in the Union army. We then found startes on the map and classified them by Union or Confederate. The girls did well on this!

We ended the day with piano lessons and church in the evening!!

Thursday

Ian worked more on review skills. He was so proud that he finished his number book!! We read about the rich man living his things instead of God. We made some barns to see which could hold more and less.

The girls did day 5 of unit 26. I had them read the bible lesson and look for the answers in their reading! We have done it about two weeks and they love it!! We sang our hymn afterward and it was a good way to start the day! For their cursive they had to write two sentences about forgiveness, our trait for the week.

They did language and dictation along with storytime and DITHOR.

For math we did review games!!

In science we read about the wheel and axle and how it made work easier to ground flour. We found some examples at home.

In history we added to our timeline about the Civil War and also to our notebook. We made a t chart of things that pertained to the Union and the Confeserates. The girls loved it! We then used our competed charts to write a summary of what we learned about the Civil War in our journals.

It was a fun and easy day!!

Friday

We ended the week with a fun and easy day.

Ian did his letter review with a game I call letter races. I spread his flash cards out and then he races to pick them up and call them out and bring them to me. We discovers things that fall and glide based on our bible story of te farmer planting seeds. He had some computer time with www.starfall.com and he also watched a Leap Frog letter video on Netfix.

The girls started day one of unit 27. We mainly did the history, activity, and science. They also did their reading and math. We will double up on the other boxes Monday. This helps out since we have one day of co op each week.

We read about John Muirr and his contributions to wildlife conservation and state parks. We read about his 1,000 mile walk and then made a state art project. The girls outlined a state he traveled to with yarn and then made PPP up trees and animals for the state they chose. They turned out cute!

In science we read about how important and exciting a visit to the general store was to the Robertsons. It was nice of Sarah to use her money to buy a letter for a lady who could not afford to buy it for herself.

It was a fun week and girls leaned a ton about the Civil War and impressed their history teacher Daddy!
