Unit 23

Monday
Ian is learning about Jesus's life on Earth. We are learning the letter Rr and the number 9 along with the color blue. He is also reviewing his writing skills and letter recognition as well as his counting.

The girls worked on day 2 of unit 23.

We read about Horace Greely getting his first job as a type setter and that even though he was treated poorly by the other boys there he was disciplined enough to keep working and he eventually became a famous newspaperman! We had fun practicing type setting to allow the lesson to sink in!

We read our poem, heard and sang our hymn, and worked on our bible verse about social one as we did jumping jacks!

In science we did a notebook page on how natural dyes were used by pioneers to add color to their woven yarn.

We worked in cursive writing, dictation, and a review in language for part of our literacy.

We started a writing unit on comparing and contrasting that was fun for them. E will focus on this for the week.

In storytime we read a chapter of our book with a retelling. In the girls reading thy had to read aloud toe and tell me about their books.

We are still looking back over addition and subtraction strategies insta along with doing extra math facts for additional practice.

Ian had speech in the afternoon and we spent time with some outside PE!

Tuesday
This is my kids favorite day of the week!! We have co op classes all morning and then Ally has dance in the afternoon while Ian goes to a friends house to play! Audrey helps me with the baby while I work the desk at dance.

Wednesday

I wish this momma could take a sick day!!! I was not feeling well at all but we managed!! Ian did the basics of LHTH and the girls got some work lessened!

Ian is doing well on writing his R!

The girls did a lot of oral work today! They did have math and are doing well. Audrey does not get doing it in her head. She wants to write and work it all out.

We are still working on lowercase letters in cursive. Dictation is still going as well.

In language we started a new unit on paragraphs! They learned the definition and made some examples.

We read our devotion and sang our hymn. And also read our poem looking for the rhyming pattern.

In history we read about 4 authors and how they practiced to become great authors. They were Bryant, Hawthorne, Dr. Holmes, and Prescott.

We did vocabulary today and to get done we only did two words this week! I was the best mom ever!

In science we learned how hard it was to spin cotton and that cotton was a summer material. The girls used a cotton ball to demonstrate finger weaving! We did not do any writing, just discussion.

We used signal words such as both, alike, different and both in writing. The girls did great comparing and contrasting using these words.

The girls did their reading and we also read a chapter of our story book!

We also had speech, piano, and church! I was happy to have hubby come home and take the kids so I could rest!!  I pray that I feel better tomorrow!

Thursday
Mommy is much better today!! I had my little helper all over the place as we worked!

Ian worked on the letter R and learned about the 12 disciples. Here he is lining up his toys as the 12 disciples.

In bible we read our verse and did some sit ups! We also read about King Hezekiah out of 2 Kings 18:1-12. We discussed how he was disciplined to God. We sang our hymn after our lesson and rejoiced that we have a loving God!

We finished up our poetry for the week . Here is what our poem looked like after we marked and looked at all the partisan

We worked more on paragraphs in language and comparing and contrasting in writing. We are still learning a lowercase letter a day in cursive. Both girls worked on a dictation passge.

In reading we read a chapter of our read aloud and discuss it and for the girls reading they read and answered questions about their reading.

In history we did day 4 and 5 of the unit. We read about Louisa May Alcott and her life as a poor little girl who was determined to grow up and take care of her family and she did!! I had the girls illustrate a part of the poem A Song for the Suds, as their art for the week. We also added her along with Horace Greely to our timeline. We then added facts about William Cullen Bryant to our history notebook and drew a bob o link.

In science we also did day 4 and 5. We read about wool carding and dyeing. We then mixed colors on our own!

It was a good day!

Friday

Ian had his fun day with science and pattern blocks!! We learned that Jesus turned water into wine, which is grown up grape juice ;) We also reviews letters and sang and danced to our songs.

The girls did science and history for day one of unit 24. In science we read about the peddler coming to visit the Robertsons and what a fun day it was. Ma got a new clock!

In history we met Daniel Webster and learned that he was a man of device. He helped his brother go to collage, paid his father's debts, and took an old poor woman firewood. We did a geography activity with coordinate grids to emphasize how to use a grid.

The girls worked on cursive s and r an also finishe reading their DITHOR books. We will start a project with them on Monday. We read another chapter I our read aloud.

They only did xtramath for math today.

For writing they did learning logs for the week and journals. In learning logs they write 5 things they learned this week to show Daddy.

In journals thy wrote their own compare and contrast paragraph.

Ducks and Chickens
Ducks and chickens are alike and also different. Ducks and chickens both lay eggs. Both kinds of birds have wings and feathers. Ducks can fly better than chickens can. Chicken feathers are softer than duck feathers. That is how they are alike and different.

This is about how horses and zebras are alike and different. Zebras have stripes and horses do not. Zebras stay in groups and horses do not. They are bothammals. They both have eyes on the side of their heads. That is how horses and zebras are alike and different.

I think both girls did GREAT!! It was a GReAT week and now we are looking forward to a GREAT weekend!
