The girls had a GREAT birthday and had their first day of school as being 8!
Monday
Ian is working in the letter y this week and learning about what Jesus did after he arose. He loves telling me story of the resurection! We reviewed letters and numbers and did a few pages in his ETC phonic book.
Later today he will do some fun art! The girls had a painting party yesterday an painted Elsa from Frozen. The instructor and friend of mine sent an Olaf home for Ian to paint!
The girls are on unit 32 and in the home stretch! We worked on days 1 and 2 today.
We had a new student visit this morning.
While Ian worked they did a math review over adding and subtracting money as well as xtramath. They also did their reading and finished their realistic fiction books! We will work on projects later this week. I then read them a chapter of our book while Ian took a break.
Our verse for the week is Proverbs 23:4-5 and is about patience. This is great for all of us in our household as we all struggle with it daily! We found some ways to practice patience and discussed its rewards! We then sang our hymn. The girls wrote the verse in cursive!
We read our poem called A Pilots Prayer and discussed new vocabulary, the meaning, and the rhyming pattern. It fits right in with our history study!
We read more about the Wrights brother and how they had o be patient. At first no one believed them and then thought their ideas were foolish, even people in other countries. The boys finally got noticed by the military who wanted a plane that could hold two men upright and fly for an hour! This was finally accomplished and the country of France was interested as well! We felt sad reading about the first military death when Orville crashed. He was hurt and had a limp the rest of his life.
We looked at France on a map and found Le Mans. We made a French map.
We also looked at the four principals of flying, lift, drag, gravity, and thrust. We had fun demonstrating each one.
In science we read about Tom and his family moving to Michigan. I recorded the girls narration. We then did a notebook page and listed some of the things that young Tom had questions about.
For writing we are still on biographies and leaned how a timeline can help us write events in the right order. The girls made a timeline of their life.
We ended the day with piano practice,PE, and a baseball game!
Tuesday
We had co op, dance class, reading, piano practice, and softball!!
Wednesday
Rain rain go away! Our yard is now a small pond!
Ian is still working on the letter y. It is hard for him to write but he is getting the sound! We did some sound matching work today.
The gels were on day 4 of the unit. Hey both finishe twit realistic fiction books and chain of events project! We also finished reading Misty of Chincoteague!! It was a great read! Our next genre study is folktales!
We have a few reviews left in math and we will have adding and subtracting obey done and move on.
In bible we read about having patience for the treasures that await us in heaven! Nothing on earth can compare! We sang our hymn.
We read our poem and did some fun alliteration! This took right into our history where we read about the Wrigts reuniting in France and being treate like celebrities. We did vocabulary with it with the words aviator, inscription, and beret! They loved the word beret :)
In science we read about Tom traveling by train and learning about steam power. We then demonstrated how matter moves in hot things verses cold ones. Such fun!
We did some biography lessons for writing and did a shared writing. We also did a dictation passage and leaned about adjectives. We added adjectives to our shared writing.
The girls had piano lessons and we did some indoor PE.
Thursday
Today was another busy day and just when I was about to relax because I thought our schedule was free I get a reminder that Ally has a make up dance class today and Ian had a ballgame!
We worked hard and had some fun though. Ian got to use pattern blocks to make letters and then he wanted to make a robot! We also read about Jesus going back to heaven with a promise to come back one day. Ian loved today's song selection! We also worked on numbered, matching letter sounds to words, sight word recognition, and number I'd and writing. He had some fun PE running to his song!
In bible we read our story and looked up answers to it from Luke 11:15-32 about the Prodigal Son. We focused on patience both God's and the sons father.
In science we did a video narration about Tom Edison moving to his new home in Michigan called The Grove in the Trees.
We did some practice with using menace words and adjectives in language, copied the alphabet in cursive, and did passage 89 in dictation.
For history we finished reading about the Wright Brothers and their Sisiter and what a good book! The girls added the last few events to their history notebook page.
Audrey's biography about Wilbur.
Ally's biography about Orville.
The girls did some PE and practiced their piano.
We ended the day by watching two Magic School Bus videos "Takes Flight" and " Up in the Air". Then we put together a small balsa wood airplane. Air was a hit with all of the kids!! Our wing broke and it didn't fly well but it was fun!
Friday
Ian did some fun review games today! He watched a number video on Netflix. He enjoyed playing bingo with his big sister.
The girls did the science exploration today for the unit. We read about Tom's first day of school and his strict teacher Mr. Crawford. A stove sat in the middle of the schoolroom for heat. We tested three spoons, metal, plastic, and wooden, to see which one held more heat. We found out that metal is a conductor and heats up.
They also wrote in cursive in their learning logs, five things they learned this week. Hey also did their last math review over adding and subtracting money. They did super!
We had piano practice, bible verses for AWANA, and a fun PE video to end our short day.
Next week will bring on unit 33 and the start of Audrey's softball games twice a week!
