Unit 31

We had a great Easter weekend celebrating the Resurrection!! Here are a few pics of my sweeties!

Monday

Ian can count out loud, write most numbers without help from 1-15, but recognizing them is HARD!! We use flash cards and games but man does it try my patience when he misses the same numbers over and over! Any suggestions? He did awesome on his letters and bible recall!! We finished up all the bible stories for the week today as they were part of the Easter story. He could not stop and wanted me to redid them! We acted out a few of them.

The girls did day 1 and 2 of unit 32 today. We are thinking of no school on Friday to celebrate their 8th birthday on Sunday!

They read their reading and then narrated back to me as well as answers a few  comprehension questions and reading two pages out loud to me. I the. Read another chapter of our realistic fiction book! It is a great book. We are reading Misty of Chincoteague. Such a good and easy read!

In math we worked on adding money and they did great! We are still using the 2b textbook and reviewing as well as xtramath. I am hoping this will make 3 a go smoother in the fall.

We worked on dictionary skills in language as well as a dictation passage. The girls both misspelled some words so we will work on it again.

In writing we will work on biographies for a few weeks. Today was a short and simple reviews and they did great! We read about Jane Goodall and the girls were fascinated!

Our bible trait is about being hardworking and goes with Proberbs 14:23. We defined the word and came up with examples. We also discussed how the verse applies to it. We then copied the verse in cursive.

We stared a new hymn called The Lord is My Shepherd about Pslam 23. We read how it was inspired by a young King Wdwaed and written by Thomas Sternhold.

In history we read what the Wright Brothers did after their glider worked. They wanted to put an engine and propeller on it! It was a crazy idea of the time but with hard work and the support of their family they made the first flight on December 17, 1903! It was only 12 seconds but was the first! We did an activity with Bernoulli's principle to demonstrate how the air moved the plane. And also read a poem about the directions of the wind and put up a windsock in the yard!

For science we read about the Scottish New Year celebration known as Hogmanyay. We compared it to how we celebrate the new year. The girls found it neat that the kids go and beg for treats like we do on Halloween and that they sweep out the old year to welcome in the new one!

We did piano and PE and reading on the Kindle. Ian has his first baseball game of the season tonight!!

Tuesday

Co op classes, dance lessons, and softball practice were the events of the day! The girls did read and practice piano.

Wednesday

Ian did GREAT on all of his work today!! His review went well and he earned extra computer time!

The girls worked on day 3 of the unit. They did their math adding money reviews and their DITHOR while I worked with Ian. They did their workbook page in cursive for their handwriting today.

In history we read about how the Wright brothers telegraphed their family about their  flights! They said to tell the press, however the press thought it was not news worthy and the boys and their fily were disappointed. They were not too discouraged because Orv had pictures!

We did vocabulary for our activity!

We read our devotion and talked about how Jesis is always the same! We sang our hymn, did a passage in dictation, and and discusse imagery with our poem.

For writing we learned that to write a biography the author has to gather information. The girls interviewed each other and wrote three facts they leaned in complete sentences.

In science we started reading about Thomas Edison. We read how he tried to hatch goose eggs! When he sat in the near and the eggs they did not break due to their tough shell. We had fun using our palms to try and break an egg!

We had a great day!

Thursday
My little guy woke up with a fever this morning so he has the day off ;(

The girls worked on day 4 of the unit.
We did our bible story with questions this morning while our hymns played in the background.

We did dictation passage 86, copied a sentence in cursive, and learned we can look up words we don't understand in our bibles in the dictionary! The girls then practiced their piano.

In math we reviewed subtracting money and the girls did good. I think the short reviews are doing their job!!

In DITHOR the girls did some comprehension checks with me and read aloud. For story time we did a narration and discussed integrity. We read two chapters of our book.

In history we read about the Wrights using a cow field to test their new plane!! We had fun making paper airplanes in art and testing them out like Wil and Orv!

We then added to our main timeline and our Wright Brothers timeline. This will give us a lighter day tomorrow.

In science they narrated to be about young Tom Edison and his families impending move due to the railroad by passing their town which would hurt his families businesses.

In writing since we are working on biographies I had the girls write about themselves.

I loved Ally's! She wrote about being a fashion expert and that she started when she was two! Audrey wrote about being a cursive expert!

The kids did 100 jumping jacks and a yoga video for PE today.

Hopefully this tomorrow Ian will be better and we can finish unit 31! We only have a few things to do such as science, reading, learning logs, piano, and PE.

Friday
Little Man  is still suck :( so no school toe him but we had a trip to the doctor. He tested negative for the flu but still has aches and fever.

The girls did school with Daddy! They had an easy day of reading, piano, PE, science, an learning logs!

We read about Tom Edison and how he leaned that thin ice is clear and not good to skate on and that thick no clear ice is better. We looked at an ice cube to see a thick layer and a thin layer.

The girls wrote 5 things they learned this week in their learning log and wrote them in cursive!

They readier independet reading and I also read a chapter of our storytime book and they did a narration.

Daddy will take the girls to get new bikes for their birthday on Sunday!! This will make for some new PE fun! I can't believe my baby girls that we waited almost 5 years for will be 8!! What a blessing they are. Though they are twins they are totally different and I wouldn't have it any other way!
