Unit 34 :(

We  are on our last week of Little Hands and Bigger and while we are excited I am a bit sad too. We will do a fun two week unit study and lap ion over Disney and will then be officially done with school form the year!

I wrote a post this weekend about our curriculum for next year! It is getting orders and starting to come in!!

Monday

Ian is reviewing this week on his letters! He is doing well. We read about Paul on the road to Damascus. We acted out our stories and listened to and danced to our song. We counted and were numbers and letters! I am sad that his preK days are coming to an end!

The girls worked on day 1 and 2 in history and science.

Our verse is Proverbs 9:10 and our trait is Fear of the Lord. We did some jumping jacks and sit ups to work on our verse. We discussed our trait and found examples as well a listed how we can show Fear of the Lord. Our hymn is still America the Beautiful.

The girls are reviewing time in math this week. They are also still reading folktales in reading and enjoying our storytime with More Stories in Grandmas Attic. We finished language last week but still have some dictation passages to get done this year. We are on 96. For cursive the girls were out this weeks verse.

We read about Tom starting his own newspaper to keep news current. We learned that he was late to get on a train one day so the conductor pulled him up by his ears which caused him to be partly deaf from then on. We did a notebook page in our science section about Thomas Edison.

In history we first read about the migrant workers from Mexico by reading about the Moreno family who traveled the U.S. 6 months out of the year to pick fruits and vegetables. We fingerprinted some of the things they harvested.

We also read about the Buis family from Vietnam. It took them four years to get to America after the war. They were abandoned to live on their own with nothing, imprisoned on a beach for weeks, but they survived! We read the poem at the base of the Satue of Liberty that all those new faces see wen entering the country. The girls copied it and drew the statue. We also added the Vietnam War to our timeline.

It was a good day! We did some piano practice and PE and just took it easy the rest of the day and enjoyed time at home!

Tuesday
Our day was filled with Co op classes, dance lessons, piano practice, reading, baseball and softball games!

Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!! We enjoyed the day, how about you?

Ian did review and acted out a bible story about Paul being saved by being raised in a basket. We worked on numbers, writing, sight words, lettered and sounds, and neat coloring.

The girls reviewed time intervals, which is still a bit tricky. I had to break out the clocks.

They finished their folktales and will do a fun project tomorrow. I also read from our storytime book and we talked about comparing and contrasting.

In writing we wrote about how to wash a car. They did good on this.

We did a dictation passage and store some in cursive to finish up our literacy for the day.

We read about how our country expanded and added states. We drew outlines on our map. We then did our last vocabulary page for the year!

For science we read about Tom's lab on the train exploding and how he used water and a coat to get it out. After the reading Audrey asked me if we get to blow up stuff! Um, not exactly.  We had fun learning that now we have fire extinguishers that put out fires. They take out the oxygen a fire needs to burn. We mixed vinegar with baking soda in a jar and closed the lid. When the bubbles stopped with lit a match and our chemical reaction out the fire out!

We did some PE before lunch and little bit joined in!

The big girls had piano lessons and we all had church in the evening! It was a good and easy day for us! We learned and we had fun!

Thursday

Ian did great in writing and acting out his story!! Following directions is still a work in progress! I have a feeling this will be a lifelong problem for my little man :) He loves storytime and picking out the books we read everyday. He is better at paying attention and answering my questions.

The girls did our weekly bible reading lesson from Revelation 22:7-21. We learned how we don't know when God will come but we should always have Fear of the Lord and be ready! Only those who have God in their heart will be taken!

The girls  did a review in math and did very well practicing all we learned this year.

In science they did a video narration about Tom wanting to make his own moving picture show! They did great!

In reading they listened me read as Rey worked on a book project. They made a movie slide show of their books.

In history we finished reading about the addition of all 50 states. We played a game to see who could find more! Ally won again but Audrey was better. We then drew and labeled a map of our country today for our history notebook.

The girls practiced piano for 20 minutes each and then enjoyed outside PE on their bikes!! Ian enjoyed it as well. Both Audry and Ian have games and or practice tonight.

Tomorrow we will finish both LHTH and Bigger!! We have a science lesson and some review to finish out Bigger and a few other loose ends to tie up before we call it a year!

Friday
Today we finished and packed up LHTH and Bigger after we finished our last lessons!

Ian finished his story bible and reviews letters!

We finished reading about Thomas Edison and the things he even yes, the most memorable being the light bulb. We learned how a switch will open and ie close a circuit turning lights on or off. Edison was a true visionary!

In journals for the week the girls wrote about second grade! It was fun reading their hearts about the year.

Even though we are officially done with HOD for the year we have a fun Disney study for the next few weeks before we officially end our school year. Though we will read and keep up skills over June, take July off, and pick back up with HOD  in August!!
