Jesus First
Other's Second
Yourself Last
By putting Jesus first they are learning that he is the most important thing and without Him nothing else is even possible! The bible says that Jesus is the Alpha, the beginning, and this simple children's reminder reinforces that in an easy understandable way.
I love to hear the girls at night recite this as they say their prayers and it gives me joy knowing that I am teaching them to put the Lord first in such a simple act and with such an easy reminder. The cutest times are when we have to stop and think of the "others" we need to pray for and they come up with things we as adults don't see as important but to a four year and to God they are! For example we have had to pray for one of our dogs, for our sister to be good and get her four stickers, for Uncle to catch fish, and my favorite is for Nanny to say yes to spending the night! The point is though they are praying for others and now it is mostly at their own doing!
My girls are also learning that they or their needs are not the most important thing when praying. Just the other day Ally had to remind Audrey that she didn't put herself last like you are supposed to. Kids are so egocentric and are always focused on what they want and have that "I want it and need it NOW" attitude and that is one thing I do not want my girls to do. I know they will do it but hopefully not to the extreme as most kids. Patience is another skill they are learning because they have to wait until they have done the J and the O! What a great lesson!
Even I find myself using JOY as I pray and I can honestly say it has truly changed how I pray and I am so thankful for that and feel much more confident in my walk with Him. So thank you Michelle Duggar from one Christian mom to another!
