A review of week 11

This was another great week with our HOD lessons and the girls really seemed to learn and enjoy all of the lessons. Here is a rundown of what we did this week.

Unit 10: Pilgrims Build Houses at Plymouth

Verse: Psalm 143:10 " Teach me to do Your will,For You are my God;Your Spirit is good.
Lead me in the land of uprightness.

Song: No Song This week!

Poem: Don't Give Up.

Storytime: Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
We are still enjoying this book and cannot wait to read the others! We worked on setting again this week as well as our character trait of faith.

Spelling: Long 0 words Phonics: Audrey Blends and Allly multisylabic words.  Both girls mastered their words for this week! Ian is working on  f and s in speech as well as letter recall over letters I have introduced and writing his name in "mommy school" as he calls it. He and I also had fun with the finger play "Five Little Jack o'Lanterns".

History/Geography: Our history lessons were over the Pilgrims building houses and included a little boy named Thomas who only wanted to help but often got in the way. He could pretty much be any little kid in the world today. Their geography lesson was to look at the routes of two English explores, John Cabot and Magellan and compare their routes. The girls did well with this. We also added to our timeline this week by including the day the Pilgrims made the first house at Plymouth.
Bible: We read John 4: 27- 38 about Jesus wanting us to reap the harvest  and related it to how the Pilgrims had to reap the harvest of their crops and then celebrated after all the hard work was done. We also played a game where they had to sow seeds, reap them, and then harvest them before eating. The girls and Ian had fun with this.

Science: In science this week we learned about harvesting and using a wedge. We played the above mentioned bible game as our science. Here is a photo o my hard workers.
Writing: This week we didn't do any lessons from our IEW book since the girls worked so hard doing three lessons last week. Instead we focused on writing good sentences in everything we do!

Reading: In their reading the girls read Frog and Toad All Year (2.5/L) and both liked it, even though it was a bit easy for them both to read. I personally enjoy books by Arnold Lobel because I remember reading them when I was their age. . To sum up the book after they finished it, they each chose a different project. Ally made a wordsearch and Audrey made a book award. Here is a picture of then responding in their reading journals. I take one day and instead of orally answering the comprehension questions, I have them respond in writing.

Math: Fractions were our math focus for this week so I pulled out some of my fun fraction lessons back from my teaching days. Here is a photo that sums up some of our fraction fun for the week.

Art/PE/Computer/Enrichment:  We used our books from Mindware again for our enrichment since the girls have so much fun with them. We also did some drawing in art as well as making oiled paper windows in our HOD art lesson. We continued typing lessons for our computer time. The girls also had piano practice.
