Bible Verse: Galatians 4:9......Let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.
Both girls earned a ticket for learning their verse this week. In a few weeks we will add in our AWANA verses so we will see how much we can get done in a week. I have played the bible song for them but they are just not interested in it, so I am thinking we may put it in the car and listen to the entire CD while we are on the go. In lieu of the CD, the girls piano lessons will be the main focus of their music curriculum. They actually had their first lesson ever this week!
Poem: Father We Thank Thee
Read Aloud: Benjamin West and his Cat Grimalkin. Focus: Biography, Character, Responsibility
The girls again did not memorize their poem but did like it. They are also enjoying the biography more and have the concept of character. They had a good time making their main character pictures this week. We practiced more responsibility through helping to clean the house again but also in being on time getting up and getting started each day. For their independent reading project the girls did an acrostic poem about one of their favorite book characters they read about this week. In their weekly journal they had to write about how they can be responsible. I took a picture of their journals for this week.
Here are how their poems turned out.
Here are their journals.
Writing:
We did more with key word outlining and both girls were able to tell their outlines to Daddy from memory! Here is a picture of an outline we did together. Our language focus was still on adjectives and we had fun playing an adjective with a Noah's ark theme. We did not do a full writing this week but practiced outlining and verbally making an outlines me sense when reselling it.
Spelling/Phonics:
I took a picture of the girls tic tac know boards that they love! This week I challenged them to each make three in a row on their own boards instead of against each other. We worked on list #2 with short e words. The girls did great and passed their tests though Audrey did miss the word when. She spelled it when. Here is a pic of Ally working in her ETC workbook on suffixes. Audrey worked on blends in book 2 this week. They are liking this part of school and I am glad!
History/Geography
As you can tell from the title of the unit we learned about Jamestown in our history and geography lessons. A and A were excited to learn about Richard and Sally. My husband a history teacher is very fascinated about the story format of the girls' history book so he is taking notes because it is almost time for his school to adopt new text books and though it cannot be Christian based it can be story based! We also added to our timelines this week and put Jamestown in the correct spot. Here are the girls working on their notebook page for the week.
Science:
We learned about animals and how God made them to live where they do. The girls decided to make a camel out of playdough as it was their agreed upon choice of animal to learn about. Here are A and A with their camels.
Math:
In math we did alot of graphing and they enjoyed making a graph together on our board. Ian even helped out and did our counting and drawing of the shapes. I took lots of photos of our math graphing fun!
Out art lesson was based on the story of Ruth which both girls enjoyed. It is one of my favorites as well. The girls made their own wheat field. My girls love art! We did this while my little guy napped!
This week the girls each earned a bundle of 10 tickets and got to cash them in for a prize! Audrey picked a sucker and Ally picked extra art ans craft time They earn a ticket for good work, behavior, attitude, learning their verse, showing the character trait, things like that.
On Friday we will not have a full day of school since we finished the bulk of our work. The kids and I plan on sleeping in, reading a book, our read aloud, playing computer math practice games, and calendar time! We have all worked have this week and have company on the way. I love the flexibility of homeschooling!
